Abstract

As in other industrial societies, family in Hong Kong has undergone rapid and drastic change since the 1970s. This paper uses the development of governmental family policy as a vehicle for examining the various topics and methods that have been of interest to family scholars in Hong Kong. Considerable attention is given to the suggestions of a White Paper (policy paper) published in March 1991 by the Hong Kong Government on the future development of social welfare. The paper also suggests objectives regarding family that may be used to guide further development of family policy in Hong Kong.
