Abstract
This article provides an overview of the state of families in Texas. Drawing on data from the U.S. Census Bureau and statewide programs, the analysis examines family demographics, indicators of economic well-being, and educational opportunities and outcomes, while highlighting key challenges including housing, food security, healthcare, childcare, mental health, domestic violence, aging, disability, and military life. Families in Texas face pressing problems, such as high rates of uninsured, childcare deserts, and poverty, exacerbated by massive land size and high proportion of rural communities. However, Texas offers promising opportunities for families in terms of educational initiatives and statewide service delivery models. Findings demonstrate how Texas’ vast geography and complex demographics shape families’ well-being. A more comprehensive review of these issues and their implications is needed.
